There are specific methods to solve the mold strain of stretching metal stamping parts. In the forming process, the basic principle of reducing adhesive wear should be followed, and changing the properties of the contact pair should be taken as the starting point. Special treatment is given to the raw materials for forming workpieces, the relationship between workpieces and molds, and molds.
Firstly, regarding the raw materials of the formed workpiece. By surface treating the raw materials, such as phosphating, spraying or other surface treatments, a non-metallic mold layer can be formed on the surface of the formed material, which can greatly reduce or eliminate the strain of the workpiece. This method is often costly and requires the addition of additional production equipment and production processes. Although this method sometimes has some effects, it is rarely applied in actual production.
Adding a layer of PVC or similar film between the workpiece and the mold can sometimes solve the problem of workpiece strain. For production lines, continuous supply of film can be achieved through mechanisms. However, for stamping equipment with periodic production, a film needs to be added for each workpiece produced, which affects production efficiency. This method is generally costly and produces a large amount of waste. It is advisable to use this method for the production of small batches of large workpieces. In some situations where the forming load is very small, sometimes the problem of workpiece strain can be solved by adding lubricating oil or lubricating oil with EP additives.
Forming method - can be selected from two basic material types. A) Hot working tool steel can withstand relatively high temperatures during mold casting, forging, and extrusion. B) Cold working tool steel is used for cutting and shearing, cold forming, cold extrusion, cold forging, and powder pressure forming.
Plastic - Some plastics can produce corrosive byproducts, such as PVC plastic. Corrosion can also occur due to factors such as condensation, corrosive gases, acids, cooling/heating, water, or storage conditions caused by prolonged downtime. In these cases, it is recommended to use mold steel made of stainless steel material. (Introduction: How to Identify the Quality of Stamping Dies)
Mold size - Large molds often use pre hardened steel. Whole quenched steel is often used for small-sized molds.
